I’m often asked whether or not you need to be on social media to grow your business. While it certainly will give you exposure, it’s not necessary to grow a business. There are still tried and true marketing techniques that work to grow your client base.
For instance, networking, email marketing, and distributing flyers and business cards are good ways to promote your business. Getting to know and fostering relationships with other business owners will undoubtedly bring you business. Email marketing keeps you top of mind. Flyers and business cards work for you while you’re not there. On Friday, I just got a call from someone who picked up my business card at a coffee shop I frequent.
To grow your business, you need to know who your ideal clientele is and know where they are.
With that said, if your ideal customer is on social media, then yes, you probably should have a presence.
We live in a digital age; it’s where people spend their time.

Younger people aged 18-29 tend to favor Instagram over Facebook. But still prefer YouTube over those two.
LinkedIn is a favorite for people ages 30-49 and who have finished at least one Bachelor’s degree.

The point is … get to know where your ideal client is and market in those places.
